Back to the Future

Before I move off into future photographic adventures I thought I'd post a wee retrospective of some of my work over the last couple of years, as, well, I think they deserve to be seen on my squeaky clean new blog. These all share a pretty common theme: indulgent, edgy, raw... and all inspired by film, books, characters and things that go bump in the night. Welcome to my (and my model's) dark side...

A Bright Star

Brooke Jamison is an up-and-coming young model from Brisbane, and I just new she would be perfect for this concept, a loosely inspired, modern interpretation of Jane Campion's beautiful film A Bright Star, which chronicles the doomed love affair between Fanny Brawne and the poet John Keats. I think Brooke makes the most perfect Fanny Brawne of the 21st century, equally at home within a gothic fairytale as she is frolicking within the lavender fields...

The Dark Side

Looking at these shots done with Bridie Manson make me realise I should do some more dark/light work. This was something I was quite obsessed with for a while and I often heard my work was dark, moody and gritty. I've been a bit creatively bi-polar of late then, with all of my direct sunlight and vintage summer haze work. I think its time for a return to the dark side.

The Green Grass of Yonder

Fiii is a fabulous model, so good she'll be helping me shoot a vintage clothing lookbook very soon - watch this space!

West Country Girl

Elise is an aspiring model with not too many shoots under her belt, however she really brought these shots to life and infused them with the essence of an English rose... just how I imagined! And that vintage dress on her ... amazing x

Fallen Angel

Lauren, a young, aspiring Brisbane actor, helped me bring this concept to life: an angel, fallen to earth. Trapped. Stuck. Wondering how the hell she's gonna get back to heaven. Kind of inspired by Wim Wender's Wings of Desire, Lauren really made the pictures in my head a reality!

Vintage Rose

Tamara Simovic is an aspiring Brisbane model, and definitely one to watch out for. With legs that go forever and an amazing brunette mane, she brought so much personality to our shoot as well.

A Teddy Bear's Picnic

I've shot the most amazing models in time gone by: too good to not have on this (new) blog! So I've decided to put up some oldies but goodies - the best shots from my favourite shoots. I'll start off with Tegan Chamberlain, an aspiring model and actor from the Gold Coast. I had the idea of a teddy bear and pyjamas, and a little girl lost, and Tegan was only too happy to oblige. Which was a good thing, don't you think?

Ciao Bella!

This is Bella Piera, a young Brisbane model signed to Tamblyn. I just love her natural, fresh looks and her ability to adapt to a different mood immediately. Bella was able to move seamlessly from the light and fresh mood of a waterfall location seen in the first shot, to the edgy and moody attitude seen here in the second. Adaptable, creative: she certainly has what it takes.
