Ahoy, sailor girl!

Model: Lita Lynx

How adorable is Lita? An up and coming burlesque performer, she just nails the 50s nautical pin up girl.

Dark Queen

I am immensely pleased with the Dark Snow Queen I conjured from model Luna Sea! The headpiece was a found natural object (a fallen palm frond) and I knew immediately what I wanted to do with it. I just love the ethereal gorgeousness Luna brought to the concept. More images at Facebook.

Days of Wine and Roses

I did something I've never done today - I went out and shot flowers. For a long time my photography was very fashion/editorial in style, with the odd foray into architecture and such. Lately though I've decided to shoot anything and everything and flowers is a pretty nice place to start. This is my favourite from the bunch.

Catching Sunlight Part 2

I first blogged some of these images a few months back, but I love them so much I've worked some more. Even straight out of camera these shots are just beautiful but with some photoshop magic applied, this is where the dreaminess starts.

Hail to the Headpiece

This amazing little quirk of nature was found in a back garden - it's a fallen frond from a palm tree. It caught my eye because it just so happened to have a natural headband. Visons of splendour filled my mind, and I've now done two shoots using it as the centrepiece. After the last one though it was returned from whence it came - laid to rest in the botanical gardens. RIP headpiece - it was fun while it lasted :) Here are some photos from one shoot, with model Caitlin. More will follow from the second one.

Noosa

Well, the time has come to say goodbye: to summer time here in Australia. Usually the Easter holiday is the last time I go for a swim before settling down to the cold business, but we've been lucky this year - the warm weather just keeps on coming (re climate change - maybe not so lucky? But that's for Twitter). Noosa Heads is a stunning part of the world, just north of Brisbane, Queensland. With a bay protected by a  large headland, its the perfect place for longboarding and stand up paddle, as you can see in these photos.

Diamonds on my windshield

Title stolen from Tom Waits. Images taken driving on a rainy night. Colours have only been enhanced in a very minor way.

Silenced

When I look at my vast catalogue of work, I realise it's the darker, more artistic work that really stands out to me, and stands the test of time. As a photographer, I should be able to - and do - wield my camera and document a variety of scenes: anything from a wedding to a fashion shoot to (potentially) an exercise in foreign photojournalism. All of these each carry their own beauty, but to me, well, sometimes I need a more visceral reaction. I receive this most when viewing black and white. And as a great photographer once said (and whom, it escapes me now) 'look at what everyone else is doing, and then do the opposite'.

Film Noir

These are some photos from my recent shoot with Raquel. I wanted to do something very dark, raw and edgy; cinematic and dramatic. I also wanted to produce some female portraits that showed emotions usually left well alone - a departure from the usual representation of woman. Raquel was amazing, as you can see, and brought my vision to life perfectly. I think of the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo's Lisbeth Salander when I look at these. Enjoy!

Mono

This is a preview from a shoot I did with Raquel today. Its summer time here in Brisbane and about 28 degrees and humid. Really put me in the mood to do something with a cold and dark winter vibe! More to come ...

Paris Je Taime

Feeling a little nostalgic for Paris ... as you do. Thought I'd post some of my favourite images, taken underneath the Eye, and from Lover's Bridge. Also some random street scenes, from my happysnap perspective.
